Hope Over
Heroin event scheduled in Troy
Many citizens of Miami County have had the opportunity to attend a
meeting of the Hope over Heroin, Troy planning team. The team is
comprised of various church members and community professionals. Their
work is an effort to unite regional faith-based, non-faith based,
addiction recovery and grief resources at one place, most often for the
first time, and connect those hurting the most with long term support
and resources.
Hope over Heroin-Troy is a two-day event that will bring addicts,
family members and friends face to face with spiritual leaders,
healthcare providers, recovery plans and legal resources. It will be
held on July 8th and 9th at the Miami County Fairgrounds.
Attorney Steve Justice, a founding member of the Miami County Heroin
Coalition shared that 50 people each month, overdose on heroin in Miami
County and more than 23 Ohioans die each week. Although Narcon is
available to revive an overdose/unresponsive person there was no doctor
in the county licensed to prescribe Soboxone, which is the most
effective medication to fight withdrawal symptoms when an addict fights
to recover. The Coalition has worked with Upper Valley Medical Center
to provide training and received a commitment from at least one doctor
to be licensed to administer this medication. Mr. Justice spoke
extensively on his belief that it will take both faith based and
non-faith based initiatives to fight this epidemic.
Through the vision of pastors in Ohio and Kentucky in 2014, Hope over
Heroin events have attracted more than 60,000 people. Events are
currently scheduled for Troy, Dayton, Columbus, Norwood, Kenton, Ohio
and Brookville, Indiana. Your donation will provide supplies that will
directly reach those who are looking to escape the grasp of addiction
as well as a way for families to connect through a fun day of love and
hope.
Please go to the website (attached) if you or your organization is
available to help. Donations are requested by June 30th and can
be made payable to Hope Over Heroin. Please note Troy Ohio event
on the memo line. Your donation is tax-deductible and very much
appreciated.
