“Art at the
Mill” begins new season with colorful exhibit
Historic Bear's Mill will open a new season of art exhibits in the
Clark Gallery with the colorful work of painter Donna Pierce Clark and
glass blower Jack Pine on display from Friday, April 8 through Sunday
May 8. An informal opening night reception offering hors d'oeuvres and
drinks will be held on April 8from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., with the
artists speaking about their work, methods, and inspirations at 7
p.m.This event is free and open to the public. “We are thrilled to be
greeting the arrival of Spring with the vibrantly beautiful art of
Donna and Jack which will enhance the natural beauty that surrounds the
Mill in this season of renewal,” said Marti Goetz, Executive Director
of Friends of Bear's Mill.
According to Ms. Goetz, “Art At the Mill” annually presents the work of
some of the best area artists; each show usually features two
complementary artists, one who creates two-dimensional work and one
whose output is three-dimensional. “Bear's Mill has always been a
gathering place where people feel welcome to explore or just relax and
spend time chatting with old friends and making new ones,” Ms. Goetz
stated. “'Art At the Mill” offers the opportunity to enjoy an uplifting
cultural experience in a relaxed, friendly environment, and perhaps
discover a piece of art that would fit right in at your home,” she
concluded.
Jack Pine grew up in Circleville, Ohio, home of the largest pumpkin
show in the nation, perhaps explaining his creation of dazzling
blown-glass pumpkins that are among his most popular items. He has
spent the past twenty years perfecting the art of glass blowing with
the objective of creating organic art forms in a unique style. The
glass artist, whose studio is located near the Short North district in
Columbus, experiments with a large variety of precious metals, layering
them on top of each other to create his richly colored work which is
displayed in homes and galleries around the world. “Not only his lovely
rainbow-hued pumpkins, but also has “Rainbow Vases” and “Rainbow Floppy
Bowls” will astound you with their awe-inspiring beauty,” Ms. Goetz
remarked.
Following high school, Donna Pierce-Clark completed a degree in Art
Education and immediately began teaching art, an occupation which she
has pursued for forty-five years, currently instructing adult students
at Hayner Cultural Center in Troy, Ohio. Her life-time love of painting
inspires her work, which includes graceful florals and still lifes,
striking landscapes and seascapes, and evocative portraits, as well as
some abstract expressionist pieces. “Most of the undulating shapes and
lines of my landscapes are in direct response to exploring hills,
meadows, forests and mountain ranges across the United States,” the
artist explains. “Travels to the American Southwest jump-started my
love of abstract/expressionism; but in all my work, there is always a
spiritual connection between the painting and my own spirit,” she
states.
“Art At the Mill” is on view during regular Mill store hours, 11 a.m.
till 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. Sundays.
