World Blood Day
is June 14
DAYTON, Ohio - Community Blood Center hopes the celebration of World
Blood Donor Day Wednesday, June 14 with the global theme for 2017 of
“What Can You Do? Give Blood, Give Now, Give Often” will inspire more
people to join the ranks of volunteer blood donors.
This year the World Blood Donor Day campaign is focusing on giving
blood in times of crisis.
“It’s a natural response to see someone injured and ask, ‘what can I
do, how can I help?’” said CBC Chief Executive Officer Dr. David
Smith. “We know our donors are the first to give during
emergencies and year round. We are grateful for their gift, we
rely on it to fulfil our mission, and so many lives depend upon it.”
Nationwide, approximately 36,000 blood donations are needed each day.
With no substitute for human blood, those in need rely on the kindness
of volunteer donors.
The summer months are a crucial time for blood and platelet donations.
High schools are on summer break, families are vacation traveling, and
everyone is busier with outdoor activities. All this disrupts
blood donation schedules. Please consider scheduling an
appointment to donate online at www.DonorTime.com.
Nexcare bandages has again partnered with America’s Blood Centers and
CBC in a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the need for blood
donation during the summer months. Donors at the Dayton CBC can receive
newly designed Nexcare bandages (while supplies last) commemorating
World Blood Donor Day.
This year, the Nexcare Give Program celebrates all those who give in
their communities with the theme, “Roll up a sleeve and give where you
live.” In keeping with the message, the 2017 limited-edition collection
of bandages features vibrant, city-inspired designs reflecting
landmarks and locales from around the globe.
Donors can sign up to receive free Nexcare Give Bandages by visiting
Nexcaregive.com. They can also show support and share personal blood
donation stories with the “Give” community by using the hashtag
#GiveInspires in social media posts, tweets and photos.
CBC is the regional provider of blood components and services to 25
partner hospitals and health centers in 15 counties, serving patients
in southwest Ohio and eastern Indiana.
CBC is part of the America’s Blood Centers network of 600 donor
providing blood products and services to more than 3,500 hospitals and
healthcare facilities across North America.
World Blood Donor Day is a united, global celebration on a day that has
particular significance: June 14 is the birthday of Karl Landsteiner,
the Nobel Prize winner who discovered the ABO blood group system.
