Sylvia Miller:  The National Road:  A Ride Through Time

Sylvia Miller will be presenting “The National Road:  A Ride Through Time” at the May 6th meeting of the Darke County Genealogical Society at 2:00 p.m. at the Garst Museum in Greenville.

Sylvia Miller is a retired educator, holding a Master’s Degree in English Literature. An accomplished writer and song writer, she has recently written and produced a historical, audio travelogue of the National Road from Wheeling, West Virginia, across Ohio. Featuring thorough scholarship, it also includes songs representing the historic narrative and the cultures of the immigrants who traveled the National Road.

The National Road was America’s first national highway. Starting in Cumberland Maryland and continuing to Vandalia, Illinois, it opened the west to settlement and bound East and West into one great nation. This lively program includes slides, audio recordings and live music to present the history, stories and songs of the National Road through Ohio. The speaker presents an educational and entertaining journey across America’s first national highway.

This program, which is free and open to the public, is made possible in part by the Ohio Humanities Council, a state affiliate of The National Endowment for The Humanities.   Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.
