PERI retirees
learn about CAP services
Cap, which stands for Community Action Partnership, is a major asset to
Darke County and the surrounding area. Although its mission is to
work in partnership with local communities to eliminate the causes and
conditions of poverty as well as to promote individual independence and
self-sufficiency, it does much more.
Whether a person is homeless and in need of food and shelter or is a
senior citizen, without family, who is in need of transportation to a
medical appointment, to buy groceries or someplace else, Cap does
not discriminate but is there to help. That help can also extend
to a clothing and commodities bank for families and others to
home energy and weatherization assistance programs that will help keep
energy costs down.
Although impressive, their programs do not end here. Located at
1469 Sweitzer St, they also provide job training that will help
applicants get back in the work force, free tax service for those with
special needs, and are the managing agent for the Metropolitan Housing
Authority. As if this is not enough, they also partner with
United Way.
Public Employee Retirees, their guests, and non PERI members, who have
retired under OPERS, will have the opportunity to learn about these and
other CAP programs at their luncheon meeting on Monday, February 5,
11:30 a.m., at the VFW, on Ohio Street, Greenville, when
Cap County Director Julie Lecklider and her assistant, Carol Littman,
speak.
Reservations for the meeting must be in to Vivian Nieport, PERI'S
Attendance and Contact Chairman,
by calling her at (937) 548-3961 on or before Wednesday, January
31. The cost of the luncheon is $9.00 per person, which includes
a $1.00 PERI organizational fee.
