Program to
Highlight Veteran History
Edison State Community College, the Miami Valley Veterans Museum, and
Versailles Schools are working collaboratively to present a salute to
American war heroes on Wednesday, November 14 at 12:30 p.m. at the
Versailles High School auditorium.
Area veterans and their families are invited to attend and hear the
stories of World War II veteran, Harry Ashburn; Korean War veteran, Don
Earnest; and Vietnam War veteran, John Looker. All are combat veterans
and will share their accounts of the challenges and tragedies of war to
a high school audience of 400 students.
U.S. Army veteran and curator of the Miami Valley Veterans Museum,
Terry Purke, will be showing artifacts from those three wars in the
museum’s “History in a Box” project prior to the program.
The band Thien Snipps, led by Vietnam veteran Larry Dragosavac, will
present a thirty-minute concert of patriotic music from 12:30 until
1:00 p.m.
Vietnam veteran Mel Shane will emcee the program, and the social
studies faculty at the high school, Jennifer Sentman, Amy Carman and
ten-year U.S. Marine veteran John Jackson, are handling ground
logistics. Edison State student and veteran Sean Murphy will record the
program for local distribution.
