Work,
work, work; what is “work”?
Google defines the word “work” as “activity involving mental or
physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result; something
a person (or thing) has to do”. Most of us spend the majority of
our waking hours doing some kind of work – in the office, on the job
site, or around the house. This means that the dinner you made
for someone else, the package you dropped off at the post office, the
hours you put in volunteering and even time spent cheering your
child/grandchild on at their sporting event is work. So, what does it
look like to worship God amongst all this work?
Unfortunately for a lot of Christians, faith and work do not often
intersect. The connection between faith and work is not always
obvious, but it is a God-given calling to make them connect.
What if we view all this work as an opportunity to worship God?
The Bible is full of examples of people living their daily lives on an
eternal mission, weaving together their faith and work in their
everyday lives. “We are often tempted to compartmentalize our
faith and our work separately,” according to RighNow Media President
Brian Mosley, but “God has called us to live out our faith every day”,
not just on Sundays. God also calls on us to live out our faith
in all the work we do, not just as professionals, but as Christians!
Join First Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 22, 2019 for the day
as Christian business professionals from around the world speak about
the sacred connection between faith and work through a livestream
event. New York Times Bestselling Author Jon Acuff,
Founder/Chancellor of Eternity Bible College & bestselling author
Francis Chan, President of Hobby Lobby Steve Green & Inside Edition
Correspondent Megan Alexander are just a few of the guest speakers
lined up for this meaningful day-long retreat.
The cost for the Work as Worship Retreat is $30.00 and includes lunch
and refreshments throughout the day. The livestream presentation
will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude around 3:30 p.m. Work
as Worship is for you, whatever your current job situation is
(unemployed, home-maker, part-time, full-time, retired, etc.).
First Presbyterian Church is located at 114 E Fourth St., Greenville,
OH 45331; the retreat will take place in the fellowship hall. For
