John Burkett joins A Star Spangled Celebration of Independence
The Greenville Municipal Concert Band will present a very special
Celebration of Independence this Sunday, July 7. The concert will
begin at 7pm at the newly rebuilt Marling Band Shell in the beautiful
Greenville City Park. The concert is free and open to the public.
This week, The GMCB will present a Celebration of Independence.
The band will feature many marches by Sousa and other serious and
patriotic music. The band will feature many soloists for the
concert Sunday as well. Joining the Greenville Municipal Concert
Band for the first time will be John Burkett. John is a lifelong
resident of Greenville area and former member of the Faculty of
Greenville City Schools. He also served as a Curriculum
Specialist for the Darke County ESC. John has served in
Greenville City Government since 1990 and is currently President of
Council. With wife Karen of Fifty-Six Years they have three
children, five grand-children and two great-grand-
children. He is a member of Greenville Masonic Lodge and
other Masonic organizations as well as Greenville Elks Lodge, and is
Secretary/Treasurer of the Greenville Liars Club. He and wife Karen are
quite involved in Historical Reenactment, portraying characters of the
late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. With their love of
the outdoors, they both enjoy traveling, hunting, fishing and
camping. John will recite a stirring excerpt from General Douglas
MacArthur’s speech Duty, Honor, Country.
Also scheduled to appear will be Greenville resident Jim Buchy,
chairman of the Agricultural Education Foundation with an encore
performance of Testimonials to Liberty. We are proud to announce
the appearance of crowd favorites John and Chelsea Whirledge.
They will be singing with the band on You Raise Me Up, America the
Beautiful and God Bless the USA.
Make plans to attend this wonderful Celebration of Independence concert
at the Marling Band Shell in the beautiful Greenville City Park.
Food Trucks are scheduled for the afternoon for your enjoyment.
Plenty of park bench seating is available and you are always welcome to
bring your own lawn chair or blankets to sit on and enjoy the
experience. The Celebration is Sunday, July 7 at 7pm. Bring
a friend and enjoy music in the beautiful Greenville City Park.
