Down on the Farm, By Nancy
Hampshire Rush, Senior Scribe
Jean soon learned what it took to become a farmer’s wife and adapted
quite readily. She worked in the fields right alongside Dick and drove
the tractor when Dick was needed elsewhere. It’s strange that she could
drive a tractor so well but she never got her driver’s license until
after Dick had passed away and she moved into town. She was probably in
her fifties at the time. Perhaps the necessity for getting around on
her own in town was just the impetus she needed. I do remember that she
went to a driving school for lessons and that she drove an old brown
car after she... Read More. See More

Happened to Washington’s Birthday?
By Floyd and Mary Beth Brown
“If we do this [change the date of the Washington holiday celebration],

Townhall... Defining Our Fiscal
Crisis Correctly is Step One
By Star Parker
Private Investment accounts... “Despite a 37% drop in 2008, they still
would have earned 75% more than they would have gotten from Social

It’s George Washington’s birthday today. Anyone notice? Anyone have a
clue when Abraham Lincoln’s birthday was? Frankly, I’m not sure what
other presidents are supposed to be honored on President’s Day, but I
think we’ve diluted the importance of the days that should be honoring
the Father of our Country and the tortured man who saved it some 60
years later. Today’s blog on Pres. Washington’s birthday is worthwhile
reading. Also, if you are interested in history, our lead story, Down
on the Farm, is a great read. News:
