|
The lessons of our youth
By Bob Robinson
It should have come as no surprise that the Conveyance Fee (Transfer
Tax) increase passed on Monday. I had heard from a number of people who
questioned why the public hearings were held in the first place,
believing it was a done deal from the start. Up to a point I agree,
however I would allow that if someone had come up with something
earth-shattering they might have taken notice. I’m guessing they had
already anticipated the objections they would hear. They didn’t hear
anything new, so they passed it. The beauty of local government is that
your commissioners are... Read More. More Opinion.

Reinvent Greenville?
By Bob Rhoades
Somewhere right after 1950, the City of Greenville sort of started
re-inventing itself from a quiet farming community to the beginning of
an agricultural/industrial community. The first evidence of that was
the south water tower which I can remember seeing rise over the trees
from our Central Avenue home. Soon on the same block, a second
fire station was built and... Read More. More Opinion. |

This past Friday I spent some time counting weeds at a few research
sites. The consensus is this: preemergence herbicides applied two weeks
ago are holding strong. However, plots that did not receive a PRE are
starting to get weedy. There are many fields in the... Read More. More Community. |

Feds Crack Down on Campus Flirting and Sex Jokes
By Michael Barone
When I was growing up, it was widely believed that colleges and
universities were the part of our society with the widest scope for
free expression and free speech. In the conformist America of the
1950s, the thinking ran, few people dared to say anything that went
beyond a broad consensus. But on campus, anyone could say anything he
liked...

WORKING TO DISRESPECT ITS AUDIENCE
|
Townhall...
Big Media Suicide Compact
By Cal Thomas
Is there a profit-making business -- other than TV networks and The New
York Times -- that so disrespects its audience it works overtime to
offend them? What other business metaphorically flips the bird to those
who don’t subscribe to their social, cultural and political worldview?
That is precisely what big media does to a large number of potential
viewers and subscribers. Three recent...
