Snap, Crackle, Pop
By Naiesha Thobe
And this isn’t an advertisement for Kellog’s Rice Krispies. Those
noises were very audible to the many people who gathered to “ooh” and
“ahh” at the bright lights that lit up the Sunday night sky. The
Eagle’s 6th annual 4th of July celebration brought thousands of
civilians together for one reason: Independence Day. But, rewind, to
earlier that day... The Eagle’s Shade Road Park opened its gates to the
public, free of charge, to enjoy the 4th of July weekend. On Sunday,
the festivities began at 3 p.m., kicking off the second... Read More. More Community.

Lincoln: The past and the present
By Bob Rhoades

of A. Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. To me it says it
all. I wonder how many people actually think of what has happened
since 1776 and the 235 years since then. I paraphrased the Address for
2011: Eleven score and 7 years ago, our fathers brought forth on this
continent, a... Read More. More Opinion.

Extreme Camp Held
During the week of June 20-24, campers at Darke County Parks got
extreme! Campers began the week getting to know each other
quickly by having to work together at a challenge course at Camp
Yale. After the challenge course they encouraged each other as
each camper climbed to the top of a fifty foot tower and then hopped on
a zip-line and sailed to the bottom. The second day, they were
broken into teams and battled at a paintball course. The... Read More. More Community. |

Obama’s Economic Irrelevance
By Michael Gerson
WASHINGTON -- If there is a single moment that symbolizes President
Obama’s dramatically altered re-election prospects, it was his visit to
a Jeep plant in Toledo on June 3. Obama’s remarks that day were
familiar. America had faced the worst recession “in our lifetimes.” His
opponents had wanted to do “nothing.” The president, in contrast, had
acted. As a result, “American...

Wrong Marriage Debate Again
By Mona Charen
If only lower income heterosexuals were as keen to marry as some

reported New York’s legalization of such unions last week with about as
much hoopla as it did the Japanese surrender in 1945) are ecstatic.
Actually, the first...
