2011 - ART CHANGES LIVES

The Dayton Art Institute…
Through the lens of Heather Douglas
It was my first visit to an art museum and I felt it important to share
my photos and my experience. As I walked through the art institute I
found myself surrounded by some of the most beautiful pieces of art I
have ever seen. I was amazed at the age of some of the pieces and the
meaning behind the works of art. A wide variety of displays could be
seen, from ancient to contemporary. It was an enjoyable and
enlightening experience. Note: Be sure to view the slide show at the

WAIT UNTIL THE SEASON IS OVER? |
It was so obvious, a blind man could have seen it coming
By George Starks
Ok, was I the only person who was able to read between the lines?
It was just over a week ago at the Ohio State-Penn State game when
one of the best, if not the best, college football coaches said he had
no intention of ever coaching at Ohio State. Even though the rumor
was running rampant, Urban Meyer denied it by saying, “Ohio
State has not contacted me on this matter.”. At
that point... Read More. More Sports. |

COUNTY COMMISSIONER MIKE STEGALL
|
Coffee with the Commissioner to resume in January
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed
to the success of the “Coffee with the Commissioner” gatherings I
have had this past year. The success is due to you, the people of Darke County.
When I was elected, one of my goals was to bring government back to the people.
Over the years, people have become disconnected with their chosen
representatives, and I believe this is why we are... Read More. More Opinion. |

Beyond Thanksgiving
Not everything we are taught in school is accurate. In school, as in the papers, when truth and legend vie
with each other, too often the legend wins out. Take Thanksgiving. I was taught that
it was all about the Pilgrims, and their bounty coming from helpful Squanto and
other Indians. Nice story. Great legend. Racial harmony and a big fat turkey,
all in one gulp. But the truth is that George Washington declared Thanksgiving as a holiday for reasons arising from
the birth... Read More. More Blogs. |

FROM
THE EDITOR... ON THE INSIDE - TODAY IS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30,
2011 |
I
guess winter has arrived. I drove back from Edison Tuesday afternoon
with snowflakes starting in Covington and slushy roads by the time I
passed Gettysburg. It was still coming down Tuesday evening. According
to WHIO, it’s a toss-up whether there will be problems on the roads
today. We’ll see. Also in News:
Ohio State Patrol sees spike in drug seizures this year; and Bill to have Edison statue languishes. Blogs:
What Would the Gipper Do; and Paying the Rates Obama Demands. Obituaries: Francis Eugene “Gene” Ford, Clarabel K. Price. For
