Wave still seeking first victory
By George Starks
GREENVILLE- Sometimes, teams start off seasons hot and either fizzle or
stay hot. On the flip side, some start out cold and get hot or stay
cold. Greenville started out cold and has stayed cold. The Wave fell to
0-3 on the season Tuesday, dropping a 3-0 decision to Wapakaneta. Once
again, it all happened in the first half when the Redskins got on the
board at the 24:20 mark, when Sam Weigardner scored the winning goal.
Just over five minutes later, the second goal of the half would come,
this time... Read More. More Sports.

Veterans day at the fair made me reflect
By George Starks
Attending memorial services isn’t exactly my cup of tea. For only the
second time in my life, I attended the Veterans Day service at the fair
this year. I don’t know why I went but something told me to go. I’m
glad I did. I don’t know who the speaker was but he said some things
that made me think. When someone sets my wheels in motion, I tend to
speak my mind and that doesn’t... Read More. More Opinion. |

WRITTEN AS IRENE HITS EAST COAST
|
Rain, Rain, Go Away
By Naiesha Thobe, Teen Scribe
Unless you have been living under a secluded rock, you will know that
Hurricane Irene is battering the East Coast as you read this article.
Of course, the weather couldn’t be any nicer here - it’s cool for once
(mildly), there’s no rain (which we need), and the winds are calm (for
now). So, a lot of people are probably growing tired of hearing nothing
except Irene this, Irene that, 100 MPH, New York, Obama’s... Read More. More Teen Scribes.

Working Together to Bring Jobs
Issue 2 is Key to the New Direction
Lately, I have noticed a few people in the district speaking about
Issue 2, collective bargaining reform for government employees, as if
they had all the facts. Unfortunately, the claims made and
printed in local newspapers by these individuals are not the
facts. A YES on Issue 2 means jobs, and a NO means status quo.
Issue 2 will lower the cost of doing business in this... Read More. More Opinion. |

BAD WITH THE GOOD... OLD-AGE PENSION

The Costs of Success
By Michael Barone
Some of society’s most intractable problems come not from its failures
but from its successes. Often you can’t get a good thing without paying
a bad price. A prime example is our public old-age pension system,
Social Security. It has been completely successful in wiping out
poverty among the elderly. Old ladies no longer have to eat cat food to
survive. But we pay some prices for this. One... Read
