PEOPLE CAME JUST TO SEE THE RACES |
John Hanes’ Horse Barn
By Abraham Lincoln
This barn housed race horses. I never saw them race but when I was
small John still had a horse or two in this barn. Gordon, Ohio, where
this barn is still located, and where I was born, was a bustling
village of a hundred or two families between 1848, when the village was
platted, and 1860. There was a man, south of town, who did have a race
track built... Read

Fighting for Ohio’s Farms
There’s a lot that farmers can plan for: the type of crops to grow, how
much acreage those crops will cover, and when to pick those crops. But
this year, a widespread drought has left many Ohio farmers with an
unplanned disaster: fields dry as a bone and minimal yields. According
to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research
Service, Ohio and most of the U.S. are in the midst of the most severe
and extensive drought... Read

The United States Of Dependency?
Economy: New reports suggest America is not only hurting economically

GREAT DARKE COUNTY FAIR COUNTDOWN... 6 DAYS TO GO - SATURDAY, AUGUST 11,
2012 |
When
I was on Tiger Radio’s Community Ties for CNO last week, Alex Mikos
asked what was the most rewarding part about County News Online. That
was easy… helping kids meet their college expenses. I caught myself
trying to remember exactly how many scholarships the SSSF has to thank
our volunteers, businesses and individual sponsors for. I had lost
track. SSSF has helped 20 students reach their college goals since
2009. Total scholarship awards? $23,950. Thank you Darke County!!! Also
in Blogs: Ticket to Fantasyland will expire in 3 months. Events: CAP will be closed for maintenance. News: West Troy Tool & Machine gets $2.35 million boost. For
