Riegle Memorial heads final race card at the fair
Ladies race proves interesting
By George Starks
GREENVILLE - The final night of harness horse racing brought the
spotlight on two areas Friday at the Darke County Fair. The seventh
race of the night brought on the much anticipated, Gene Riegle Memorial
Pace. With a $10,000 purse at stake, five of the best pacers the
business has to offer took to the half mile track with the possibility
of a new track...

ER STORIES UNLIKE YOU SEE ON TV |
E R
By Delbert Blickenstaff, M.D.
I was an intern at Providence Hospital in Portland, OR, in 1956.
The Emergency Room, ER, was fairly active because we got most of the
skiing and other accidents from Mt. Hood. I was on duty one
Saturday when some high school students came in with their injured
friend. They had been climbing on Mt. Hood, which is a relatively
easy climb, when a girl fell and pulled several others down on top
of... Read

DARKE COUNTY FAIR |
Too much excitement in one night at the fair
By George Starks
GREENVILLE- With well over 60 races in the books at the Great Darke
County Fair Friday, including the much acclaimed Gene Riegle Memorial
Pace, the final race of the fair ended with a very bad twist. With the
final race nearing completion, the P.A. announcer came across saying,
"Horse down in the backstretch." At that point a horse down meant a... Read

Remarkable People
By Abraham Lincoln
People — some 'remarkable people' have crossed my path over the years.
My mother kept us alive when all hope must have vanished. My
wife, these last 50 years, has been a calming influence on my life. I
think of the dogs I have called my own, by personal name, who have kept
my blood pressure low. Miss Beatrice Brown, my country
schoolteacher who taught..

Bradford pops Ansonia in week one upset
By Don Selanders
BRADFORD- It’s been awhile since the Bradford Railroaders have put a
notch in the win column against the Ansonia Tigers, but as they, every
dog has its day or in this case every Railroader will have their day.
Bradford kicked off the season in winning fashion by posting a 48-12
score over the visiting Tigers. The Railroaders went on... Read

Getting Old
Edited by Bob Robinson
Twenty years ago, I’d read something like this and get a good chuckle.
“I’ve got a few years to go,” I’d always think to myself. Today, I’m
there… well, getting there. For all you youngsters out there, join in
the chuckles. Just don’t forget: Some day you’ll get there, too. Enjoy…
I very quietly confided to my best friend that I was having an
affair. She turned to me and asked... Read

NOTES
& THOUGHTS
FROM
THE EDITOR... ON THE INSIDE - SUNDAY, AUGUST 26,
2012 |
Hey
folks, it’s tired out! Just ask these youngsters (click to enlarge).
It’s been a long week for 4H youth and their parents and advisors, and
CNO photographer Lyn Bliss caught these kids taking a break. If young
people are showing an animal, they are there full time. Animals need to
be fed and cared for… not a part time job. Today is Sunday. The fair is
over, but not the memories. CNO has a lot more articles and photos to
come. You might even find yourself in one of them. Also in Blogs: If I Were Romney. News: ICE agents sue Napolitano, Morton over immigration policies. Sports: Hawks bow to Union City in season opener; OHSAA State Football Finals All-Session Ticket Sales Begin. For
