Reviving large cities one at a time
By Kalista King & Becca Riffle
Lately I have had the privilege of getting to know a girl by the name
of Becca Riffle who goes to our youth group, The Corner Shack, on
Wednesday nights. You've heard me talk in past articles about teenagers
who are on fire for Christ and ready to make a difference, and Becca is
one of these teenagers. We have been talking about what it means to be
a light in our school, and how challenging that can be. However, we
have the blessing of many other fellow... Read

From Monet to Taize
By Delbert Blickenstaff, M.D.
The French Impressionist Claude Monet is famous for his paintings of
his Japanese gardens. We got to visit his home in Giverny, France on
May 13, 2000 when we joined a group from Bethany Seminary. The tour was
organized by Nancy Faus, retired Bethany professor, and our destination
was Taize (pronounced Tayzay.) Nancy had conducted previous tours to
Taize so she knew her way around France... Read

Standing Up for Ohio Seniors
As a father and a grandfather, I believe we must do everything we can
to improve the economy and reduce the deficit for our children and
grandchildren. But the way to do this is not at the expense of Medicare
and Social Security benefits that seniors have earned. Some politicians
in Washington refer to Social Security and Medicare as entitlements. I
don’t use that word—simply because they’re not. They are programs
that...

NOTES
& THOUGHTS
FROM
THE EDITOR... ON THE INSIDE - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9,
2012 |
How our government “tracks” unemployment still amazes me. We add 91K
jobs, far less than needed just to keep up, and our unemployment rate
goes down? It goes down because 368K workers simply dropped out, so
they are no longer “counted.” More than one-third of our employable
workforce has evidently given up. I don’t think this is the “Change”
our nation wanted in 2008. On a “fun” note, hundreds of bicyclists
enjoyed cool weather and ate donuts in the annual Tour de Donut. GHS
Key Club was there to help them stuff down donuts up to three at a
time… story to come. Also in Blogs: The rise of ineptocracy. Community: DCCA, Stevens Memorial Fund. News: Husted, Early Voting; Critical motorcycle injury on 127. Sports: Eldora, World 100 Rained Out. Obituaries: Karen L. Osborne. For
