Kiwanians get a lesson in the national debt
GREENVILLE – “The best way to look at the national debt is in seconds,”
Matt Huffman told members and guests at Kiwanis of Greenville Nov. 18.
“A million seconds ago is 13 days. Not a problem,” he said, noting the
current U.S. GNP (Gross National Product) of over $16 trillion. “A
billion seconds ago is 33 years,” he added. Still not a major concern
considering the GNP. “A trillion seconds ago, however, is 33,000
years…” The current U.S. indebtedness, at $18.6 trillion, exceeds GNP,
