I
need your support
Dave
Ernst
Dear
Greenville City Schools Voter:
By
this time you are already aware that I have decided to run for
Greenville City School Board. This was a very hard decision for me
to make. It meant that I could no longer coach basketball for
Greenville City Schools. I made that decision, because I can
influence a larger number of students, while on School Board rather
than 12-15 students per basketball season. To make this happen, I
need your support. First, I want you, to be informed of what I stand
for.
Dave’s
Principles for Excellence
Fiscally
Conservative –
Being
Fiscally Conservative does not mean to not spend funds at all, but to
spend the public’s money in a manner that is most effective for the
needs of the District. Lowest price doesn’t always mean the best
alternative for the School District. You may save money initially,
but in the long-run you will spend more to replace, repair or
substitute the cheaper product or service. The key is “Educational
Value,” both in the short and long term. Price is only one of many
factors to be considered in the achievement of “Educational Value. The
more important factors are: Functionality, Accessibility and
Serviceability. Does the decision achieve the ultimate goal of
commitment to excellence?
Common
Sense Approach –
It
really doesn’t get any more basic than this. Use common sense when
making any Board decision. When you are faced with a decision,
whether it has to do with staff, facilities or materials, does the
decision makes sense. Does the decision help us achieve the ultimate
goal of commitment to excellence?
Accountability-
Expect
and Demand Accountability of All in District, including the Board,
Administration, Teachers, Students and Parents. Accountability is an
essential requirement to the commitment to excellence. Whether it is
a poor grade in a class, eligibility for an athletic sport, student
test scores or Athletic team results, we need to look at the person
and to require accountability for that person’s successes as well
as failures.
Listen
and Be Accessible to the Public-
Listen
to the public, answer their questions, or direct them to the person
who can answer that question, whether it be a teacher, coach,
administrator, superintendent or the Board. None of us has all of
the answers. We each bring to the problem a different idea or
different approach. We reach our goal of a commitment to excellence
when we simply stop and listen. If I am chosen to be a member of the
Greenville School Board, I promise you that I will be available to
speak to anyone concerning the School District. I will take the
information that is shared with me and forward it on the appropriate
person.
No
Micro-Management-
The
School Board has direct supervision of 2 employees, the
Superintendent and Treasurer. To reach a commitment to excellence,
the qualified persons of this District need to be free to perform
their duties without interference from the Board. I believe we have
very qualified individuals in the District. Those persons are
capable of making the day-to-day decisions for the District. The
Board should only become involved when the issues are brought to the
Board by either the Superintendent or the Treasurer.
If
elected I will continually strive towards excellence for our students
and our schools; by listening to the families and the people
connected to them and working with both the public and school
officials to bring positive changes to our school system. For more

City Schools, vote for Dave Ernst on November 5th.
Thank
You,
Dave
