Tony Steward
and Robin Williams
Mona Lease
What do Tony Stewart and the late Robin Williams have in common?
Tick Tock - Tick Tock - Tick Tock - Tick Tock - ...Fame. Tick Tock -
Tick Tock - ...Fortune. Tick Tock - Tick Tock Tick Tock...Fans. Tick
Tock - Tick Tock - ...Anger...Depression...aging bodies. Most of us
will feel pressure. But, not to their degree. Granted - these are paths
they chose and they are/were obviously, very good at them. One man's
"feelings" turned inward. Suicide resulted. Another man's turned
outward and a racer died. (So it is reported). For all the cheering
fans, all of the "more, more, more" from the audience that these guys
heard - is it possible that they ever wished they had chosen a less
"limelighted" career? Is it possible that they knew their "well" would
run dry - no more new material - no more "leader of the pack/"
I'm not saying it is the fans' fault. It's part of the "road" - someone
better than you arrives on the scene - funnier, faster, more stamina,
etc. And - no matter what is dealt to Tony Stewart - Do you suppose he
will always remember the exact moment his car hit Kevin? Anything could
have been on that dirt track....or not. Cars were running top speed.
Wrecks, "shoving you up against the wall" - it's all part of racing.
That's how Jeff Gordon earned the moniker "CryBaby Gordon." Yes, I know
one is dirt track and one is not. The point (in my mind) still remains
- If Tony Stewart is stripped of racing forever; if he has to forfeit
all of his money, sell his cars and the Eldora track...it will never
erase from his memory the moment his car hit the driver...or when Tony
heard "Kevin's dead." No one forgets. We only learn to live with the
memory.
