Fiore Talarico will give $1 million to the University of Dayton.
Talarico, a 1974 UD graduate, will provide the gift over a five-year
period to support the university’s Center for Professional Selling,
which launched in May.
Talarico, a retired Houston businessman, has bought and sold nearly 40
companies in industries ranging from pharmaceutical research to pizza.
He has worked as a venture capitalist, a fundraiser for John McCain’s
2008 presidential campaign and an adviser for a national security think
tank.
Talarico’s contribution will help fund equipment needs for the center,
provide support for students participating each year in the National
Collegiate Sales Competition and be used to help promote the center.
University officials said Talarico’s gift to the center will help UD
students become more competitive in the job market and workplace.
“If you want to get a job, how do you do that? You have to know how to
sell yourself,” Talarico said. “Selling is important for people from
all walks of life. This will help more than just future business
leaders — all kids can benefit from selling.”
The center is currently securing corporate partnerships to provide
internship and full-time job placement opportunities for students, said
School of Business Administration Dean Matthew Shank. Thus far, it has
secured two — Total Quality Logistics Inc. and Reynolds and Reynolds.
The center hopes to have between eight and 10 partners in the near
future, university officials said.
With about 11,200 students, UD is the Dayton-area’s fourth largest
university and Ohio’s largest private university.
