COLUMBUS
— Secretary of State Jon
Husted on Tuesday unveiled Military Ready-to-Vote (MRV), a program
aimed at
making it easier for the 46,000 military personnel with Ohio mailing
addresses
to cast their ballots.
“It’s
a one-stop shop for military
voters,” the state’s chief elections officer said outside the
Statehouse.
By
visiting OhioMilitaryVotes.com,
Ohio military personnel who are deployed will be able to request a
packet to
register to vote and an absentee ballot all in one form — no postage
required.
They’ll
be able to sign up for
election reminders through email and social networking sites such as
Facebook
and Twitter, and track their ballots to make sure they are counted.
The
Ohio National Guard is preparing
to deploy more than 2,000 troops this fall in support of Operation
Enduring
Freedom in Afghanistan.
According
to Husted’s office, 5,670
military absentee ballots were requested and sent out in 2010 and 2,509
were
cast.
