Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal was the featured speaker at the Ohio
Republican Party’s (ORP) State Dinner held recently at the Renaissance
Center in Cleveland.
The evening began with a private Chairman’s Reception for Jindal. The
reception included refreshments, hors d’ oeuvres and a “photo-op” with
Jindal. DeWine and Jindal both addressed the group during this
reception – identifying some of the great strides made recently by the
Party but also saying there is considerable work remaining.
The dinner followed in the Main Ballroom. According to ORP officials,
there were approximately 600 in attendance for this part of the
evening. Other speakers were Supreme Court of Ohio Chief Justice
Maureen O’Connor, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, Ohio Treasurer
Josh Mandel, and Chairman of the ORP Kevin DeWine. Videos were
played that had been sent by Herman Cain, Michele Bachmann, and
President of the Ohio Senate Tom Niehaus.
DeWine praised the accomplishments of Republicans in Ohio the past
year. He also gave high praise to Governor Kasich and the outstanding
leadership he has provided to governance in Ohio. All of the
speakers, Jindal included, addressed the work needing to be done on the
Federal level to get spending under control and balance the budget.
A straw poll was conducted asking all present their choice for 2012
Presidential candidate. When the final results were announced,
Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney received 25 percent of the vote, 16
percent for former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and 15 percent for
Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Fourth place went to a
write-in candidate, Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Also present were many other elected officials from around the state as
well as members of the State Central and Executive Committee. Awards
were given for outstanding leadership and to the two County Parties
that had great successes and achievements during the past year - Warren
and Hancock.
