Walgreen
Co. , the nation’s largest
drugstore chain, plans to start selling health insurance to customers
this
fall, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Quoting
people “familiar” with the
situation, the newspaper said the Deerfield, Ill.-based company will
sell
health insurance products in different price ranges and coverage levels
through
a private health insurance exchange.
Walgreens
has more than 35 Dayton-area
locations.
It
already offers some health care
services through its Take Care Clinic locations, of which several are
located
in Southwest Ohio.
Earlier
this year, Walgreens acquired
Bellevue, Wash.-based drugstore.com in a transaction worth $409 million.
Walgreens
competes against other drug
stores such as CVS Caremark Corp. , Rite Aid Corp. , Target Corp. and
WalMart
Stores.
