DPL: 80k customers
lost power overnight
Wednesday, February 2, 2011
Dayton Power & Light is still working to restore electricity to
42,000 customers who lost power during Tuesday’s ice storm. Some
customers may still be without power after Friday evening, when DPL
said it expects to have 95 percent of customers back online.
“We have crews working to restore power to our customers as soon as
possible (around the clock), and we will be adding more crews later
today that are coming in from Maryland. Crews from Tennessee and
Kentucky arrived prior to the storm,” DPL said in an afternoon update.
The outages have been concentrated south of I-70, including the
counties of Preble, Montgomery, Greene, Clinton and Fayette, although
there have been outages in Miami and Union counties as well, DP&L
officials said Wednesday morning.
“In total we have over 700 employees, contractors and mutual assistance
teams focused on power restoration and we are working to add additional
crews later today,” a DP&L spokesperson said.
However, officials will not provide an estimate for restoring all power
because the weather continues to cause outages.
“We will be better able to make a full assessment with the light of day
today,” the spokesperson said. “There has been extensive damage to the
system.”
The winter storm also has hit travelers as well, with many delays and
cancellations for flights arriving and leaving the Dayton International
Airport.
As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, about half the flights were operating on-time
and half were canceled or delayed.
Airport officials said and runways are clear and most delays and
cancellations are because of the effects of the massive winter storm in
other places.
