Family Health Chooses
Executive Director
By Delbert Blickenstaff, M.D.
Senior Scribe
Jean Young, of Ansonia, OH, has been selected by the Board
of Directors to be Family Health’s new Executive Director.
The first Executive Director was the late Jean Louise
Thieme, starting in 1973. Following Ms. Thieme were Morrison Borders,
and Jay Montgomery (who held that position for 20 years.) Since Mr.
Montgomery’s retirement in October, 2009, Jean Young has served as
acting Executive Director.
Kathy O’Dell, R.N., President of the Board of Directors,
stated that the Search Committee received more than 25 applications
when the opening was announced. Most of these persons were interviewed
via conference calls. Two individuals were invited to visit the site,
however the Search Committee did not find a good match.
After nearly a year of searching members of the medical
and nursing staffs encouraged the Search Committee to hire Jean Young.
Ms. Young has worked for Family Health for 32 years. She started out as
head of WIC (Women’s and Children’s Nutrition Program). Since then she
has seen Family Health grow from a small operation serving primarily
migratory farm workers to a fully staffed community health service with
15 physicians and many medical assistants, nurse practitioners and
support staff.
Family Health has an office in Versailles and
also one in Arcanum. In addition, several of the physicians cover the
Greenville office in the new After Hours Clinic. Also a Dental Clinic
opened a few months ago. Jean Young has been actively involved in all
these changes.
