Polls show low regard for political dialogue. Poll shows high marks for
Obama on Tucson, low regard for political dialogue “Americans
overwhelmingly describe the tone of political discourse in the country
as negative, verging on angry, according to a new Washington Post-ABC
News poll, but more than half say the culture did not contribute to the
shootings in Tucson that killed six people and wounded 13”
Gun laws. Americans’ Views on Guns Unchanged After Arizona “Americans’
overall attitudes toward gun laws have not budged an inch in the wake
of the shootings in Arizona, according to a new national poll.”
Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords continues to improve “U.S. Rep. Gabrielle
Giffords entered her second phase of recovery from serious gunshot
wounds at a pace one University Medical Center doctor described Monday
as miraculous.” Husband’s Message About Giffords: ‘She’s a Fighter’
“Mark Kelly, the husband of Representative Gabrielle Giffords, said she
was “improving a little bit each day” as he spoke publicly for the
first time since the shootings in Tucson. Her condition was upgraded.”
As Gabrielle Giffords continues recovery, lawyers say Arizona statute
won’t endanger seat “Rep. Gabrielle Giffords continues to make progress
in what doctors here described Monday as a miraculous recovery after
undergoing a minor procedure over the weekend to repair a fracture in
her right eye.”
Health-care law. GOP set to assail healthcare law and seek alternatives
“Preparing to reengage with President Obama, House Republicans have set
themselves a more ambitious goal than simply wiping out the sweeping
healthcare overhaul signed into law last March.” Democrats seek redo of
health pitch “Supporters of health care reform are hoping to use the
GOP repeal effort this week to defend and explain the law, using a
unified voice and a personal touch.” Is health care law really a ‘job
killer’? Experts doubt it “Republicans in the House of Representatives
have titled their effort to overturn the health care law the “Repealing
the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act,” and that’s their favorite talking
point against it. Saying that the law is a job killer doesn’t
necessarily make it one, however, and independent experts say that such
a conclusion is at least premature, if not unfounded.”
