Gov. John R. Kasich visited with
senior citizens in Sandusky to talk about reforms in the state budget
that will
help provide them with the choice to remain in their own home rather
than
entering a nursing home.
·
Kasich appointed James C. Boland,
Steven A. Davis, E. Gordon Gee, C. Martin Harris, Gary R. Heminger,
Mark D.
Kvamme, Bob McDonald and Pamela Springer to the board of directors of
JobsOhio,
the state’s new private, nonprofit corporation that will lead Ohio’s
job
creation and economic development activities.

Kasich was in Port Clinton to
celebrate the state’s 33rd annual Fish Ohio Day where he discussed the
attributes of Lake Erie and caught two sheepshead fish.
·
Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor outlined concerns
she has with the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and
its
impact on Ohioans during a speech at a luncheon hosted by the Columbus
Kiwanis
Club.

Kasich joined Department of
Rehabilitation and Correction Director Gary Mohr, local elected
officials and
guests in Cleveland to discuss how the new sentencing reform law will
reduce
crime and save lives.
·
Kasich held a roundtable discussion
with teachers in Ashland to hear their ideas for a plan for new teacher
evaluation standards.
·
Kasich joined school and local elected
officials in Green for a public discussion on the benefits of shared
services
included in the new state budget.
·
Kasich promoted Christiane Schmenk
from General Counsel to Director of the Ohio Department of Development.
·
Taylor met with Slovenian Consul
General Jurček Žmauc to discuss the continuing relationship between
Slovenia
and Ohio.

Kasich joined Nationwide Children’s
Hospital CEO Dr. Steve Allen, Ohio Health Transformation Director Greg
Moody
and area families in Columbus where he delivered remarks about a new
program to
provide better, coordinated care for children with disabilities and
announced
$2 million for new joint children’s medical research.

Kasich joined Department of
Agriculture Director Jim Zehringer at an event hosted by Rep. Bob
Peterson to
discuss the job-creating benefits of eliminating the Death Tax in the
new state
budget.
·
Kasich traveled to Cincinnati to
address members of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce
about how
The Jobs Budget spurs economic development and job creation.
·
Kasich appointed Jill Christine
Hreben, Joseph B. Kuyoth, Jr., and R. Douglas Spitler to the Board of
Examiners
of Nursing Home Administrators, Beau Slater to the Bowling Green State
University
Board of Trustees and Klara B. Reynolds to the Shawnee State University
Board
of Trustees.

Taylor addressed supporters and buyers
of the 2010 Ohio State Fair “Sale of Champions” during a luncheon
hosted by the
Ohio Expo Commission in Columbus.

Kasich vetoed House Bill 231,
legislation related to Ohio’s participation in the Great Lakes Compact,
which
is an agreement between the eight Great Lakes states and two Canadian
provinces
to provide for water management of the Great Lakes.
·
Kasich signed into law the following
bills:
o
House Bill 64 – adds synthetic cannabinoids
commonly known as K2 or
Spice to the list of Schedule I controlled substances and prohibits the
possession and trafficking of Spice.
o
House Bill 277 – permits a horse-track racing
permit holder that is
eligible to become a video lottery sales agent to apply to the State
Racing
Commission to move its track to another location;
o
House Bill 229 – revises the laws governing
agriculture
o
House Bill 188 – establishes the Ohio
Constitutional Modernization
Commission and makes an appropriation.
·
Taylor joined company executives and local
officials to celebrate the
25th anniversary of Advanced Composites in Sidney.
