business lending up 20% at Ohio
credit unions

Small
business lending by Ohio credit
unions was up 20 percent during the first quarter of the year,
according to a
recent report.
During
the first quarter, Ohio credit
unions originated $28.4 million in business loans, up 20 percent from
$23.7
million during the first quarter of 2010, according to the Ohio Credit
Union
League’s Quarterly Performance Summary. Loans were originated by 101 of
Ohio’s
384 credit unions.
As
of March 31, credit unions reported
outstanding business loan balances of $386.6 million, up 8.3 percent
from the
previous March.
“Ohio
small businesses are in need of
credit to help them sustain, grow, and create jobs. Credit unions are
in a
strong position to lend, and have embraced the need,” said Paul Mercer,
OCUL
president, in a news release.
Credit
unions are not-for-profit
financial institutions.
Wright-Patt
Credit Union Inc. is the
largest credit union in the Dayton area, followed by Universal 1 Credit
Union
Inc. , International Harvester Employee Credit Union , Day Air Credit
Union
Inc. and River Valley Credit Union Inc.
