Faber Announces
Regulatory Reform Bill Passed By Ohio Senate
State Senator Keith Faber (R- Celina) announced that the Ohio Senate
recently voted to approve Senate Bill 2, which seeks to improve the
state’s regulatory environment in order to reduce government red tape
that acts as barriers to job creation and retention.
“If we are to revitalize our economy and get Ohioans back to work, then
we must create a business climate that helps, rather than hinders those
companies seeking to locate or expand in Ohio,” Faber said. “The
passage of SB 2 sends a strong message that Ohio is serious about
ensuring our rules and regulations are not overly burdensome on
employers and making compliance easier.”
SB 2 establishes the Common Sense Initiative Office (CSIO), which was
originally established by Governor Kasich via executive order. This
office will be responsible for developing a small business impact
analysis tool that will be used by state agencies to determine any
adverse impact a new rule or regulation could have on small businesses.
It also creates the Small Business Advisory Council, a nine-member
panel that will advise the Governor, Lt. Governor and CSIO on any
adverse impact proposed rules may have on small businesses.
Senator Faber has been working on the issue of regulatory reform for
many years. In 2008, he chaired the Regulatory Reform Task Force, which
traveled throughout the state holding meetings and gathering input from
employers, chambers of commerce, local economic development directors
and other members of the public to help identify obstacles to doing
business in Ohio.
The task force issued a report of their findings in 2009, and Faber
introduced legislation during the last General Assembly that
incorporated many of their recommendations. Senate Bill 2 includes many
of the same provisions, such as the requirement that agencies develop
customer service standards.
“Keith Faber’s work on the Regulatory Reform Task Force laid the
groundwork for SB 2, and I want to thank him for all his work over the
years on this issue,” Hughes said. “He has long been an advocate for
making state regulations more reasonable and effective, and his efforts
helped pave the way for the passage of this bill.”
