Bicycle taxicabs
coming to Dayton

A local photographer is crafting his own vision for downtown Dayton.
Seth Renner, owner of Eye Candy Art Gallery & Studios, hopes to
create a more vibrant and fun downtown through the launch of his new
business, Dayton Tricab.
Tricabs are cabs pulled by bicycle riders.
The company, which should be operational within the next two weeks,
will provide downtown visitors with a unique city-based transportation
option.
“It’s something very fun that other cities have that we need,” Renner
said.
Bicycle-driven cab services already are available in a number of large
metros, as well as a few cities in Ohio, such as Columbus, Oberlin and
Hilliard.
Renner hopes that once the service is available, downtown visitors will
use it when attending events such as Dayton Dragons games.
He currently is working with the Downtown Dayton Partnership to
establish Tricab stops throughout the city.
Since he established Dayton Tricab’s Facebook page last week, he said
he has received an overwhelming response to his business concept, both
from interested riders and potential customers.
“They will be turning heads, especially being a new thing downtown,”
Renner said.
Renner is holding interviews for potential riders — referred to as
pilots — next week. He hopes to hire 15 to 25 pilots, all of whom will
be independent contractors. Each rider will work for tips only, and
will pay 10 percent of tips received to Dayton Tricab.
Dayton Tricab will service the entire downtown area, but each rider
will have control over their individual trip radius. Riders will be
available most days 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Each cab also will have space for business advertising.
