Following a three-year absence, Darke County’s Most Wanted is back.
When it was used prior to that, the program resulted in 50 arrests.
Detailed information is available on the program’s new website by
clicking the button on the right hand side of this page, or by clicking
the link at the end of this story.
“The web site features five individuals we’re looking for,” said Darke
County Sheriff’s Detective Mike Burns. He added that the charges range
from misdemeanors to first-degree felonies and that when those
individuals are removed, more will be added.
“We have about 1,000 persons for whom we have warrants.”
Burns said anonymity is guaranteed.
“There is no way an anonymous tip can be tracked,” he said, adding that
the department solves more crimes from people in the public than by
their own (investigative) efforts. He said the local police departments
are excited about this and that they will be sending us activities
going on in their areas.
Burns noted that their facebook page has already achieved results,
adding that it’s the largest (in activity) in the state.
“We had those B&E’s” he said. “We posted it. Immediately about 50
people picked it up, which spread to thousands.”
Then, for whatever reason, he added, the next day the people involved
were caught.
He also said that they knew that kids know who traffics the drugs in
their area, but they’re afraid to say anything. Now they can.
Burns noted that people can request email updates. They will be
notified any time there is a change on the site. They can get all the
details they need by clicking on the site link.
Darke County Crime Stoppers offers rewards for tips that lead to the
capture and conviction of individuals who are wanted.
“The only way we can do this is with contributions from the community,”
said representative Ken Preston, Sr. There is a spot on the site where
this can be done. He added that if a reward is to be collected,
information must be provided to the Sheriff’s Department.
“We won’t know who the individual is, nor do we want to know,” Preston
said.
Burns thanked Clinton Randall, webmaster, for his long volunteer hours
putting the site together. County News Online supports Darke County’s
Most Wanted and is a featured link on the site. Updates will be posted
on CNO as they are received.
