unemployment rate down to 9
percent

Ohio’s
unemployment rate in October
was 9 percent, improving on the 9.1 percent rate in September and 9.7
percent a
year ago, the state’s Department of Job and Family Services reported
Friday.
About
526,000 workers in the state
were unemployed in October, an improvement from the 534,000 who were
jobless in
September. A year ago, Ohio had 571,000 unemployed workers, the
organization reported.
Unemployment
nationwide followed the
same trend, falling to 9 percent last month compared to 9.1 percent in
September.
Education
and health sectors continued
their gains, adding 24,400 jobs since October 2010. Goods-producing
industries
added 19,900 jobs over the previous year while government jobs
decreased by
9,500.
County,
city and metropolitan area
unemployment data is scheduled to be released on Tuesday.
