Gas
prices tumble in past 30 days
Thursday, September 29, 2011
Motorists
are getting a reprieve at
the pump as gas prices have dropped more than 40 cents in the past
month.
On
Thursday, Dayton-area gas prices
averaged $3.21 per gallon, down 15 cents compared to a week ago, and 44
cents
from last month, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.
One
year ago, the price at the pump
was $2.57 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel.
The
lower gas prices come on the heels
of falling oil prices. Last Friday, crude oil prices dropped $8.11 per
barrel
to $79.85, which marked a decline of more than 9 percent on the week.
Although
regular gas prices are down
significantly, diesel fuel prices locally dropped just 4 cents per
gallon to
$3.80 compared to a month ago.
The
fluctuating gas prices have been
felt by companies across all industries.
Trucking
firms are especially
sensitive to the spikes and the Dayton region has a booming trucking
hub due to
its location near the intersection of Interstates 75 and 70.
Dayton’s
gas prices are among the
lowest in the state. Cincinnati and Cleveland gas prices now average
$3.25.
Toledo, however, has lower average gas prices at $3.17 per gallon.
The
statewide average in Ohio stands at
$3.25 per gallon, which is among the lowest in the U.S. Hawaii has the
highest
gas prices, with regular unleaded gas averaging $4.24 per gallon;
followed by
Alaska at $3.97.
