Ohio
posted a 9.1 percent unemployment
in September, which was unchanged from August but down from last year’s
9.8
percent, the state’s Department of Job and Family Services reported
Friday.
That
rate is consistent with
nationwide unemployment, which stayed at 9.1 percent in August and
September,
the department said.
The
number of jobless workers dropped
to 534,000 in September from 536,000 in August. In September 2010, the
state
reported that 577,000 Ohioans were unemployed.
Since
last September, the greatest job
gains have occurred in the educational and health services sector and
in the
professional and business service sector. Construction and mining and
logging
also gained jobs over the previous year, the department said.
The
Dayton-area unemployment situation
improved in the most recent figures. In August, the local jobless rate
fell to
9.4 percent, down from 10 percent in July and 10.3 percent in August
2010.
