bonus

General
Motors Co. will give a $5,000
signing bonus to hourly workers for approving a tentative contract
agreement
reached going into the weekend by the company and the United Auto
Workers union, the Detroit News is reporting.
The
News article said the proposed
agreement also includes a pay raise for entry-level workers, profit
sharing
based on North American profits instead of U.S. earnings and buyout
offers to
skilled trade workers on the assembly line.
The
tentative deal wraps up seven
weeks of sometimes intense bargaining and is a big step to locking in a new
four-year contract for GM’s 48,500 workers.
Despite
the General Motors plant
closing in 2008, the Dayton region still remains an auto town as it is
still
home to many auto parts suppliers.
Chrysler
Group LLC and Ford Motor Co.
continue to operate under a contract extension as the contracts at The
Big 3
Detroit automakers expired last week.
