Darke County Sheriff’s Office...
Four injured in
2-vehicle accident on US 36
WHIO: Five accidents in eight days, with two fatalities, in Darke County
On April 5, 2012 at approximately 10:31 a.m. Darke County Deputies
along with New Madison Fire and Tri-Village rescue were dispatched to
SR121 and US36 in reference to an injury accident. Once on scene
Tri-Village Rescue requested mutual aid from Greenville Rescue and
Arcanum Rescue.
Preliminary investigation shows that a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis,
driven by Frederick W. Stephan (89) of Lynn, IN was eastbound on US36
and stopped at the stop sign at SR121. Stephen’s then pulled into
the intersection and hit a1994 Honda Civic, driven by Dennis F. Stanton
(34) of New Madison, which was northbound on SR121.
Stanton had two passengers in his vehicle, Caitlyn Stanton (11) and
Rachel Stanton (10). All three individuals in the Stanton vehicle were
transported to Wayne Hospital by Tri-Village rescue and Greenville
Rescue. Stephan’s was transported by Arcanum Rescue to Wayne
Hospital.
In a Steve Baker WHIO interview, Sheriff Toby Spencer commented that
some of the problem could be people fooling with “gadgets.” He went
further to add that in one case, the individual was messing with his
GPS.
The condition of all four individuals is unknown at this time.
Frederick Stephan was issued a citation for Failure to yield the right
of way at a stop sign.
