Man wanted in Greenville attempted homicide
Woman attacked in Greenville
GREENVILLE, Ohio — An arrest warrant has been issued for a man who is
accused of an attempted homicide early Thursday morning.
Two schools in the Greenville district were on a two-hour delay as
authorities continue to look for Jamel Gray, who is suspected of
stabbing Shanna Cates, 38, in the 200 block of Grey Avenue around 2 a.m.
The arrest warrant was issued for Gray for Attempted Aggravated Murder.
Gray is considered to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information
on his whereabouts should contact Crime Stoppers or the Greenville
Police Department or the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
Gray, who is the victim’s former boyfriend, is believed to have forced
his way into the house and stabbed Cates, causing numerous lacerations
to her head and neck. The victim had been staying with two friends
rather than her own home due to safety concerns relating to the former
boyfriend, according to police.
On April 1, Gray allegedly trashed Cates apartment, and she kicked him
out. The victim apparently let Cates return on April 15, and on April
17, he was arrested for domestic violence and taken to Darke County
Jail. The victim was granted a 12-month civil domestic violence
protection order against the suspect, according to police.
Gray appeared in court Wednesday and was released. Police believe he
immediately started looking for Cates, and found her around 1:45 a.m.
Thursday when the assault occurred.
Police have not located a weapon.
