Ohio
behind in super PAC contributions
Thursday, August 16, 2012
Contributions from Ohioans to super PACs ranked 15th in the country
during the last 18 months, a nonprofit California research firm found.
Ohioans gave about $3.8 million to super PACs between Jan. 1, 2011, and
June 30, 2012, according to a MapLight analysis of Federal Election
Commission data. Berkeley, Calif.-based MapLight found that about
two-thirds of all super PAC contributions came from Texas, Nevada,
California and Washington, D.C.
Although Ohio accounts for about 3.74 percent of the U.S. population,
its contributions made up only 1.24 percent of the $306.6 million given
to super PACs during that time. Contributions from Florida, another
swing state, totaled nearly $17 million and ranked the state sixth in
the country.
