Senator Rob Portman and Ohio Governor John Kasich were among the
dignitaries sharing the stage with Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan when
Ryan returned to Miami University recently.
“One of the difficulties we have is the wind is always in my face
coming from Washington. And, I’ll tell you why. They regulate like
there is no tomorrow, which breaks the back of small business. They’re
talking about raising taxes on anyone who risked their money to create
a job. And, at the same time, they are running the largest deficit this
country has ever seen. You young folks that are here, you’re going to
pay the price for this.” Said Kasich as he addressed the audience, “We
want to unlock this economy so you can be what you were made to be and
that is what Paul Ryan believes in.”
“John’s doing the right things, the legislature is doing the right
things, but folks they are facing these headwinds from Washington.
Think about it, think about how much we could be doing here in Ohio to
get working families back on track, creating more middle class jobs
here in Ohio. To restoring the American Dream. If we didn’t have this
over-taxing, over-regulation, Washington knows best attitude that’s in
the health care law, think about it. Think what we could do.
“What John Kasich needs, I think is really clear, is a partner in the
White House – and that’s the Romney-Ryan team!” Senator Portman told
the audience as he introduced Congressman Ryan, “We need a change of
leadership, the Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan team to turn it around. They’ve
got the experience, they’ve got the record and they’ve got the policies
to get America back on track…. They are principles that made our
country great and they understand it.”
Ryan ran up the ramp to thunderous cheers from the over 5,000 people in
attendance. He reminisced about his days at Miami and spoke about some
of the time honored traditions of Miami students. He congratulated the
University on the achievements of the years since he had graduated.
Ryan explained what he sees as some of the fundamental differences
between the Romney-Ryan team and the current administration.
“President Obama is out of ideas and that is why his campaign is based
upon anger and division. You know, the President I’m told, is talking
about Medicare today. We want this debate! We need this debate, and we
will win this debate. What I don’t think they will be telling people is
that the President took $716 Billion dollars from the Medicare program.
He raided it to pay for Obamacare. The President’s campaign says this
raid of Medicare to pay for Obamacare is an achievement. Do you think
raiding Medicare to pay for Obamacare is an achievement? Well, neither
do I… Governor Romney and I will protect and strengthen Medicare for
our current seniors and our future seniors of tomorrow.”
Regarding the economy, “We need growth, we need opportunity, we need
upward mobility, we need jobs. And that is why we are offering
solutions. We’re not going to tear down our budget and make one of
these awful choices of the lesser of two evils. We’re going to offer a
solution. That’s what the Romney plan for a stronger middle class is
all about: growth, opportunity, jobs. Set goals, put your policies in
place and achieve your goals. Get this economy growing at 4 percent,
with the right ideas and the right solutions, we can get people back to
work. That is our objective.”
“We need to make sure that we make more things in America, grow more
things in America, and sell more things over-seas by having trade that
works for America. We have the best manufacturers, the best farmers, we
have got to get behind them and stop hurting them with regulations and
taxes and all the rest. We have got to stop spending money we don’t
have.”
Ryan detailed Romney’s business background and his achievements of
consistently making money based upon sound financial practices and
decisions - of turning the Olympics around. Ryan said that If we are
looking for someone with fiscal knowledge, to put the United States
back on solid financial footing, Romney would be the correct choice.
After speaking, Ryan, Kasich and Portman shook hands with members of
the audience and signed autographs.
