Forum: Some expansion plans on hold
over sequestration

Until
the dust settles in the battle over the
so-called fiscal cliff, defense firms such as Peerless Technologies
Corp. have
put expansion plans on hold.
Michael
Bridges, president of Fairborn-based
Peerless, is awaiting the outcome before he goes forward with building
additional space. But that hasn’t interfered with his focus on work the
company
has already won, or is going after.
“We’ll
be keeping our heads down, doing what
we’ve always done,” Bridges said.
Bridges
made the remarks to about 175 people at
a Dayton Business Journal defense industry forum held Thursday at
Sinclair
Community College. He was part of a panel discussion that also included
Dennis
Andersh, senior vice president and Dayton regional executive for SAIC;
Scott
Sullivan, president of Centerville-based SelectTech Services Corp. and
president of the local chapter of the National Defense Industry
Association;
and Jeff Hoagland, president and CEO of the Dayton Development
Coalition.
The
general mood among the panel — and among
many of those in attendance — is that even if sequestration is avoided,
there
are still major cuts coming to military as the U.S. government looks to
get its
financial house in order. Officials say the most important thing now is
to
position the region, which includes Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and
nearby
defense companies, to withstand whatever happens…
