Adams Announces ODNR Award of $5,450 to Miami and Darke Counties
COLUMBUS, OH – State Representative of the 79th House District Richard
Adams (R-Troy) announced that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources
(ODNR) awarded grants to assist communities in reducing litter through
cleanup activities and education/awareness efforts. Applicants ranging
from Ohio counties, municipal corporations, townships, villages, solid
waste management districts or authorities, soil & water
conservation districts, Keep Ohio Beautiful affiliates, nonprofit
organizations and boards of education were eligible for the funding.
Through ODNR’s Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention, $140,628
has been granted to 75 applicants throughout the state. Entities
receiving funding must complete a litter cleanup activity on public
property, between March 1 and May 31, and the groups are required to
utilize volunteers for the cleanup activities.
The awarded applicants from Miami County are Ramp Romp Cleanup Service
event, which received $1,450, and Tire Amnesty Event, which received
$2,000. In Darke County, the Annual Community Day Cleanup was given
$2,000.
“Residents of Miami and Darke counties are aware of the need for
preventing littering,” said Representative Adams. “In instances where
it occurs, these funds will be helpful in protecting the beauty and
safety of our two counties.”
“Removing litter is an important way to improve Ohio’s beautiful
landscapes and enhance safety in our communities,” said ODNR Director
James Zehringer. “I want to thank all volunteers for participating in
this worthwhile cause to improve the quality of living in our state.”
The funding for the competitive grants is provided by ODNR’s Litter
Cleanup Grant program. This program is funded by tipping fees, which
are levied upon waste received at construction and demolition debris
landfills.
