Contested Races in the Republican Primary
Diane L.
Delaplane, Darke County Commissioner
1. Personal and professional information about yourself:
I am married to Donald Delaplane; we have two children, Doug &
spouse Kelly Delaplane and Danielle & spouse Anup Patel and three
grandchildren. I attended Sinclair Community College, Neave
Township Fiscal officer, and was Administrative Assistant for Farm
Bureau, Ohio Township Association State Secretary, Sunday school
teacher, church secretary, bank teller and preschool teacher. I serve
on the boards of Planning Commission, Darke County Community
Improvement Corp., OSU Extension Advisory, 4-H Committee, Community
Action Partnership, Main Street Greenville, Visitor’s Bureau, Union
City Community Economic Development Committee, Darke County Chamber of
Commerce, Wayne Hospital Foundation, Red Cross and others.
2. Describe the duties, as you see them, for the office you are
seeking, and your qualifications for fulfilling those duties:
One of the duties as County Commissioner is to oversee the County
budget. We are to be fiscally responsible in using tax payers dollars
efficiently to provide public services for our citizens. Commissioners
provide and maintain facilities for county offices, provide health
insurance, work on policies and meet in public session. My
qualifications include communicating with legislators at the County,
State & National level. My experience in working with government
finances, handling office procedures and being involved on community
service boards has helped me keep a positive presence in promoting
Darke County as a whole.
3. What do you feel are the top three challenges of the office that you
can address better than your opponent:
Business and Jobs: My experience in working with economic
development groups and Job Centers to expand current and to seek new
businesses is valuable. Continuance of workforce education is a
priority. My agriculture understanding is an economic resource
for our county.
Crime: Working with communities and sheriff’s department to help
curtail crime with programs such as Neighborhood Watch and drug
awareness.
Finances: My governmental background in dealing with unfunded
mandates, the finances, investments, bonds, funding sources and cuts
from the Federal and State, that create challenges in balancing a
budget, is an asset.
4. Summarize why you should receive the vote on March 6:
I am fiscally conservative and will continue to serve Darke County in a
professional manner. I, along with our county officials, worked
together through budget cuts and maintained our county services at a
level our residents are accustomed to. I have a strong work ethic and I
believe together we will continue to seek economic possibilities. I
will stay connected with organizations that involve our youth and
adults. Darke County is a Bright Spot in Ohio. With God’s
guidance, family & friend’s support, I will serve you and Darke
County to the best of my ability.
