Ohio’s
housing market continued to rebound in June.
Home sales
rose 10.6 percent throughout the state in June, compared to the same
period
last year. The increase marked the 12th consecutive month of gains,
according
to Multiple Listing Services data.
With 52,896
new and existing homes sold in the first half of 2012, the market has
shown a
12.8 percent increase in sales compared to last year.
“We’ve
reached a significant milestone in our long journey toward recovery of
the
housing marketplace throughout Ohio, as sales activity has achieved 12
straight
months of gains for the first time since December 2004 through November
2005,”
said Robert Miller, president of the Ohio Association of Realtors.
“It’s
apparent that we’ve begun to overcome the challenges stemming from the
economic
collapse of 2008 and have made strides in building a solid foundation
for
having a sustainable, growing marketplace going forward.”
Increasing
demand has also helped the average sales price edge up 4 percent to
$131,004
for the first half of the year.
Home and condo across the Dayton region
rose 9.8 percent in May, compared to the previous year, according to
the Dayton
Area Board of Realtors.
