Patriots Host Mitt Romney Representative
By Beverly Hughes
The Darke County T.E.A. Patriots met Sunday afternoon, July 15 at
Lighthouse Christian Center, Greenville. Terri Studer from the SW
District of Ohio Romney for President Campaign facilitated discussion
about current voter identification activities. She was joined by Nick
Brusky, Ohio Republican Party Western Ohio Regional Field
Representative. Al Bliss opened the meeting by introducing a brochure
he created to guide discussions, including a list of 22 possible
topics, “some taken straight from the front page of the Wall Street
Journal,” he said. Topics included Arab Spring, Mexican Drug Cartels,
Agenda 21, Voter Fraud, etc.
Numerous members of the audience brought questions or offered comments
during discussions of several of the 22 items, i.e.:
“Afghanistan is the longest war our country has ever been in – over 10
years.”
“How many people have now been killed at our southern border by drug
fighting? 25,000? No, 50,000.”
“Why no trial yet for the Army soldier who recently killed and injured
so many...?”
“Teacher Pay and Benefits? (referring to one of the 22 topics
suggested) I’d rather talk about the quality of (our school) teachers!”
Bliss pointed the group’s attention to three questions he posted in the
brochure regarding socialism as a potential form of US government,
(some) US Sovereignty being turned over to the United Nations, and
concerns about President Obama’s social security number, other names
Obama has used, his former exchange student status, etc. Bliss said “If
you answer ‘yes’ (ie, a lack of concern) to any of these questions you
can leave now because you are not one of us.”
He further noted the fast-approaching presidential election, “What
should and can each of us do for the next 113 days?” One audience
member immediately replied, “Pray daily for help.”
“Here are two people who can answer our question,” Bliss said, to
introduce the two guest speakers. Terri Studer assured the group that
she is representing the complete Republican ticket to include Mandel,
Boehner, etc. as well as Mitt Romney. She explained the current
activities to identify Romney supporters and “the squishy middle”
(uncommitted voters), “We will try to identify one-quarter million Ohio
Romney voters and then must continually converse with them.” Studer
noted that due to the current distracted and lethargic voter mindset,
“statistics show it will take campaign workers an average of 17
contacts per voter to move their attention to action. However, if a
personal acquaintance is making these contacts the number is reduced to
just six; therefore, your local activities are critically important and
we are here to serve you.”
Lyn Bliss, representing the Darke County Republican Party, urged the
group to sign up to place yard signs and volunteer for phone bank
duties.
“The Boston Romney Headquarters tells us that if we win Ohio, we win
the White House and that this is the most important election in our
lifetime,” according to Studer. An audience participant said, “If
Romney is McCain, too, we will lose.” Banter ensued among audience
members about the “weak Romney TV ads, the lies from the other side,
and (Romney should) stop being Mr. Nice Guy.” Studer responded that TV
ads will be addressing these very things and that winning the vote will
require more grassroots work than TV personage.
Nick Brusky discussed a new Republican initiative, Voter’s First, and
asked the group to investigate it online. Bill Frankman shared his
experience discussing the upcoming election with Veterans and “how
ready they are to work for something better in our country.” He urged
the group to pursue conversations with anyone met throughout the day
“because everyone has so many concerns – they all can be channeled
toward how this important election can help us all.”
Tom Subler from Versailles reported a number of visits he has made to
T.E.A. Patriot meetings in other cities and how they were building
success in reaching their communities. He noted that he has been trying
to collect information about Darke County energy use, the “rising
Public Assistance dollars spent in Darke County as the unemployment
numbers are reportedly going down.” In addition, Subler expressed
concerns about the governing of the school systems, in particular, “we
should check out the ‘bullying policies’ of our schools, if there are
any, and be sure the policies prohibit imposing staff viewpoints onto
students in matters of politics, religion, sexuality, etc.” He urged
members of the audience to attend school board meetings, city council
meetings, and to meet with county commissioners to find some of these
answers and speak out for change.
Lyn Bliss announced upcoming meetings of interest to the group:
Jeb Bush will be in Cincinnati on Wednesday, July 18.
The Darke County Republican Party will be having a meeting of its
Central and Executive Committee at the Shawnee Prairie Nature Preserve
on July 23, 6:30 PM.
Volunteers are making survey calls every Tuesday night at Buchy’s Food
Service offices on behalf of the Ohio Republican Party and Congressman
John Boehner.
The Darke County Republican Party will be opening headquarters soon at
110 North Broadway, Greenville which is the old Aunt Millie’s store
beside Sherwin Williams Paint Store.
The TE.A. Patriot meeting concluded with the Pledge of Allegiance to
the Flag and distribution of Republican materials.
