Special Election is August 7, 2012
Voters in
36 Ohio counties to decide 62 local issues.

Note: Darke County has one local issue: Tri-Village Schools. 2.5 mill/s additional for cpt,
commencing in 2012, first due in calendar year 2013, for general
permanent
improvements.
Secretary
of State Jon Husted today announced that while statewide preparations
are well
underway for the 2012 General Election in November, voters in 36 Ohio
counties
will be heading to the polls on August 7 to weigh in on 62 local issues. Military and overseas
voting for the August
Special Election will begin this Saturday, June 23, 2012.
Special
Election Ballot Issues
Information
regarding the 62 local issues, including school and local tax levies,
bond
issues and charter amendments are available on the Secretary of State’s
website.
Military
& Overseas Voting
County
Boards of Elections with local issues to administer will begin mailing
absentee
ballots to registered military and overseas voters who have requested a
ballot
on Saturday, June 23rd, 45 days ahead of the election. Military and
overseas
voters who have not yet submitted a request for an absentee ballot may
visit
www.OhioMilitaryVotes.com to download an application and/or contact
their
county board of elections. Requests must be received by county boards
of
elections no later than noon on August 4, 2012, but should be sent as
soon as
possible to allow adequate time for processing, mailing and the return
of the
voted ballots.
Absentee
Voting by Mail (for All Other Voters)
For all
other voters who plan to vote by mail in the August Special Election,
there’s
still time to request an absentee ballot. Absentee ballot requests must
be
received by county boards of elections no later than noon on August 4,
2012.
Request forms can be downloaded from the Secretary of State’s voter
information
website: www.MyOhioVote.com. Voters should complete all required
fields, sign
and return applications to their local county board of elections by
mail.
Boards will
mail out absentee ballots beginning July 3, 2012, to those who have
requested
them. Voters must complete, sign and seal their voted ballots, taking
care to
provide the required information, including proper identification.
Voted
ballots must be postmarked the day before Election Day and received no
later
than the 10th day after the election (August 17, 2012). Absentee
ballots may
also be delivered in person to boards of elections no later than the
close of
the polls on Election Day. They may not be returned at polling
locations.
In-Person
Absentee Voting
In-person
absentee voting begins July 3, 2012, or 35 days before the election,
and runs
through 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012. Locations and regular
business
hours for in-person absentee voting vary from county to county and
voters are
encouraged to check with their county boards of elections for more
specific
details.
Election
Day Voting
The polls
will be open in those counties with issues on the ballot from 6:30 am
to 7:30
pm on Election Day. Voters choosing to head to the polls on Election
Day need
to remember to bring the proper form of ID and know their polling place
and
precinct. Voters can check their polling place and precinct and get
other
important voting information by visiting www.MyOhioVote.com.

Ohio voters
are encouraged to link with “OhioSOSHusted” on Facebook and Twitter to
get
elections information and updates throughout the year.
Here they can also get a virtual voting
sticker badge to let their friends and followers know they’ve
participated in
the election, whether they chose to cast their ballots by mail or in
person.
Facebook users simply need to “like” Ohio Secretary of State Jon
Husted’s
official Facebook page to “wear” a virtual sticker on their wall.
Twitter users
may share their voting badge by visiting the Secretary of State’s
website.
