Mandel
on
5-hour fundraising blitz in DC
June 7, 2012
Josh
Mandel, the Ohio state treasurer and U.S. Senate hopeful, is on a
fundraising
swingthrough Washington today.
And
from
the look of the GOP candidate’s schedule (kindly provided to us by Ohio
Democrats), Mandel will be scooping up a lot of cash from DC’s top
lobbyists.
The
first
stop is a 4 p.m. reception at 1425 K Street. It’s not clear who is
hosting that
event, but K Street is the corridor where many lobbying firms set up
shop.
About
90
minutes later, Mandel will be at a happy hour with Grover Norquist, the
anti-tax activist, GOP insider, and conservative lobbyist. Mandel’s
campaign
said that’s not a fundraiser, just a speaking event.
But
from 7
to 9 p.m., he’ll be rubbing elbows with other members of Washington’s
influence
industry at the lavish home of David Carmen, president and CEO of the
Carmen
Group, a lobbying firm.
It’ll
be a
grueling, but probably financially rewarding, five hours. Mandel will
face
incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, in November.
Mandel’s
spokesman, Travis Considine, responded to a request for comment by
blasting
Brown’s record in the Senate.
“Federal
spending has doubled and the national debt tripled under Sherrod
Brown’s watch,
and the people of Ohio are beginning to realize that in order to change
Washington you have to change the people you send there,” he said.
