Ohio
foreclosures surpass 10K in May

The rate of
foreclosures in Ohio last month was among the worst in the nation, a
monthly
report says.
One in
every 495 housing units in Ohio had a foreclosure filing in May,
ranking the
state No. 7 in the nation, according to Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac
Inc. Georgia,
with a foreclosure
filing against one in every 300 homes, had the highest rate in the
country.
The
national average foreclosure filing rate is one in every 639 housing
units,
RealtyTrac said.
RealtyTrac
measures foreclosure filings as default notices, scheduled auctions and
bank
repossessions.
Ohio
totaled 10,359 foreclosure filings in May, up about 6.1 percent from
April and
about 23.6 percent from May 2011. Throughout the U.S., foreclosure
filings were
up 9.1 percent from April and down 4.2 percent from May 2011 to 205,990.
