Ohio is
expected to add nearly 20,000 restaurant jobs this summer, an increase
from
March employment levels of 5.3 percent.
Restaurants
across the country are expected to add 450,000 jobs this summer, a 4.6
percent
from the total number of restaurant jobs in March, according to a
report from
the National Restaurant Association
.
“Restaurant
industry employment growth will outpace overall employment growth for
the 13th
year in a row this year, illustrating the key role restaurants play in
the
nation’s economy,” Hudson Riehle, senior vice president of the research
and
knowledge group for the NRA, said in a news release. “The boost of this
year’s
450,000 summer jobs will propel total eating and drinking place
employment to
its highest on record.”
Nearly 1
million restaurants nationwide employ nearly 10 percent of the nation’s
work
force, Riehle said.
The Dayton
region has been a hotbed of restaurant growth with burger places such
as Five
Guys Burgers and Fries
and
Smashburger both
growing. In addition,
local chain Hot Head Burritos continues to open new locations.

states projected to add the most jobs this summer are: New York,
California,
Massachusetts, Texas, New Jersey, Michigan, and Illinois.
Kentucky is
expected to add 5,300 restaurant jobs this summer, a 3.7 percent
increase from
March employment levels. Kentucky, which employed 142,800 workers in
the
restaurant industry in March, is expected to see employment increase
3.7
percent, to 148,100 workers.
