JobsOhio
lands thousands of jobs in 1Q
Wednesday,
May 2, 2012
JobsOhio
helped land commitments for 5,526 new jobs for the state and retain
11,805
others in the first quarter of the year, according to data released by
the
private economic development corporation Tuesday.
Columbus
Business First reported that in addition, JobsOhio received capital
investment
commitments totaling $2 billion from the 70 projects it was involved
with
during the first three months of the year. The organization helps
companies
land state-backed loans, grants and tax credits to expand their
operations in
Ohio.
The numbers
were shared Tuesday with the JobsOhio board of directors during a
meeting in
Cleveland.
“We are
going to remain vigorous in our efforts to support and promote a strong
business climate in the state, one that is beneficial toward economic
growth
with an outcome of a stronger Ohio,” JobsOhio spokeswoman Laura Jones
said in
an email.
The new
numbers show the group is well on its way to surpassing the $3.3
billion in
capital investments it helped bring to Ohio in 2011 and matching the
82,693
jobs it helped create or retain last year. Overall, JobsOhio credits
its
efforts for creating or retaining about 100,000 jobs since the start of
2011.
