DARKE
COUNTY, Ohio — On Monday, May 14th, 46 year old Christopher Berry Brock
of
Tennessee entered a plea of guilty before Judge Jonathan P. Hein of the
Darke
County Common Pleas Court on one count of attempted illegal manufacture
of
drugs (rriethamphetamirie), a felony of the second degree.
Brock was
found guilty and a sentencing hearing followed immediately. The Court
then
ordered Brock to serve three years in prison, to pay a fine of $7,500,
and to
pay the court costs.
In
addition, a handgun belonging to Brock was forfeited to the State. The
plea
averted a jury trial which was set to commence on Tuesday, May 15.
Brock had
been arrested along with four others on January 4 when officers
executed a
search warrant at a residence located on State Route 571 in the Village
of
Hillgrove, near Union City, Ohio.
Brock had
remained in jail since that date, unable to post bail of $35.000.
Numerous
detectives and other deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office
and the
Mercer County Sheriff’s Office took part in the investigation and the
arrests.
The State’s
case was handled by Darke County Prosecuting Attorney R. Kelly Ormsby,
III.
Brock was represented by his court appointed counsel, Paul Wagner of
Gettysburg.
